Hi Welcome to the first installment of my new Friday Music Club. I will be posting stuff that I like, and occasionally, when I am gone, I may have some guest bloggers post their faves. And, I may get some reader faves in, too.
This Week for the first entry I am going to post one of my all time favourite songs…so good that favorite gets the extra u in its spelling. I posted a song by John Prine earlier this week. I love that man, and this is a beautiful song. Legend says it was inspired by this statue on top of what was then the Montgomery Ward Building Near Larabee and Chicago next to the river. Prine is a Chicago boy born in Maywood, and coming of age during the 70’s in Chicago. He was good friends with the late Steve Goodman.
Here it is Angel From Montgomery by John Prine:
I am an old woman named after my mother
My old man is another child thats grown old
If dreams were lightning thunder was desire
This old house would have burnt down a long time ago
Make me an angel that flies from montgomry
Make me a poster of an old rodeo
Just give me one thing that I can hold on to
To believe in this living is just a hard way to go
When I was a young girl well, I had me a cowboy
He werent much to look at, just free rambling man
But that was a long time and no matter how I try
The years just flow by like a broken down dam.
Theres flies in the kitchen I can hear em there buzzing
And I aint done nothing since I woke up today.
How the hell can a person go to work in the morning
And come home in the evening and have nothing to say.
